Born in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, Munir Somoya has been based in Mexico for over 16 years. His entry into elite boxing came through Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez — Munir treated him during a knee rehabilitation in Guadalajara and was brought into the camp. He spent four years as Canelo's physical trainer, engineering the muscle-building program that allowed Canelo to move up through super middleweight and light heavyweight.
After Canelo, Munir became the physical trainer for Andy Ruiz Jr., leading his remarkable body transformation — converting excess fat into functional muscle and dramatically improving his speed and explosiveness. His method focuses on the legs and shoulders as the engine of punching power, and he never works with more than four athletes at a time to guarantee elite, personal attention.
